Music Ministry

Join the Parish Choir

Open to anyone from high school age on up!
Choirs have existed in churches and temples for centuries. In the early days of the Jewish Temple, choirs and instruments were used to enhance the prayers of the congregation. Today, one cannot imagine a place of worship without music. Singing is the highest form of praise that can come to our lips.

How appropriate then, to have our Parish Choir assist us along with our cantors to bring this aspect of prayer to a deeper level by leading us in song. The Parish Choir affords the opportunity to be challenged and rewarded by studying the vast body of sacred music that is used to enhance our worship experience.

The Parish Choir sings at the 10:30 Mass on Sunday. New members are welcome to join at any time!

The History of our church is the holy women and men who have gone before us in faith. All those individuals who have carried on the traditions of our church, and have told and retold, for almost twenty centuries, the story of our salvation: the dying, rising and coming again of Jesus Christ!

The Present in our church is the gathering of believers who come together around the Lord’s Table to gather in worship and prayer, and carry on the traditions that make us Catholic Christians.

The Future of our church is the children who will continue these traditions. It is in just that spirit that we at St. Pius encourage the youth of our parish to become more involved and aware of what we do in our Sunday worship and beyond. Through participation in the Family mass and other liturgies, the youngest members of our parish learn to appreciate and participate in the celebration of the Eucharist.

In an effort to improve that participation, we are working towards increasing membership in our Cherub Choir (grades 1-3) and Schola Choir (grades 4-up) to lead the assembly in song at the Family Mass and other special liturgies and the annual Christmas Pageant. This will mean a commitment on the part of both parent and child. Rehearsals take place in the church for Cherubs on Thursdays from 4:00-4:30pm and Schola from 4:30-5:30pm.

Not only do the choristers participate in song, but they also make new friends, learn disciplines of music making and develop a closer foundation in ministry. We ask you to seriously consider our music program as part of your spiritual life here at Saint Pius. We are very fortunate to have such a blessed parish with so many resources. Our goal is to develop our music program to a high standard to enhance your worship experience and most of all, bring praise to our wonderful God from whom all blessings flow.

Our Parish Choir is open to anyone from high school age on up. The Parish Choir is the primary leaders of the liturgical music at the 10:30am Sunday liturgy as well as various Holy Days throughout the year.

Choirs have existed in churches and temples for centuries. In the early days of the Jewish Temple, choirs and instruments were used to enhance the prayers of the congregation. Today, one cannot imagine a place of worship without music.

The Second Vatican Council’s “Musicam Sacram” states, “Liturgical worship is given a more noble form when it is celebrated in song. Indeed, through this form, prayer is expressed in a more attractive way, the mystery of the liturgy, with its hierarchical and community nature, is more openly shown, the unity of hearts is more profoundly achieved by the union of voices, minds are more easily raised to heavenly things by the beauty of the sacred rites, and the whole celebration more clearly prefigures that heavenly liturgy which is enacted in the Holy City of Jerusalem!”

How profound are these words! Singing is the highest form of praise that can come from our lips. How appropriate then, to have our Parish Choir assist us along with our cantors to bring this aspect of prayer to a higher level by leading us in song and offering selections (anthems) like sung homilies to which we listen and meditate upon in silent prayer.

The Parish Choir affords the opportunity to be challenged and rewarded by studying the vast body of sacred music that is used to enhance our worship experience. As the bread and wine are transformed in the holy sacrifice of the mass, so are our prayers which are offered up in song.

We hope that you will seriously consider using your voice for this very important ministry. Rehearsals usually take place on Thursday evenings in the church from 7:30-9:15pm. We are in need of all voices. It is our fervent hope that as we grow as a parish community, you will consider becoming a part of this most important aspect of our parish life.
