Liturgical Ministries for the Laity

Altar Servers

Students may serve at Mass beginning in the 4th grade. This time-honored service of assisting the priests during the celebration of Mass is very important work. Anyone interested in serving at the altar may email Fr. Tim Iannacone or call him at 203-255-6134 and arrange a time for practice and training.

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion

Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion assist the priest in distributing the Eucharist at weekend Masses as assigned in the rotating monthly schedule.

For more information email Kathleen Donnelly in the Parish Office or call her at 203-255-6134.

Communion for the Homebound: The comfort of receiving our Lord in the Eucharist is also available to all homebound parishioners. To receive a visit, call the Parish Office at 203-255-6134.

Lectors

If you would like to become a lector and help proclaim The Word of the Lord, on weekdays, weekends, and holy days during Mass, we have a rotating monthly schedule and periodic training is available.

For more information email Kathleen Donnelly in the Parish Office or call her at 203-255-6134.

Music Ministries

Choirs have existed in churches and temples for centuries. In the early days of the Jewish Temple, choirs and instruments were used to enhance the prayers of the congregation. Today, one cannot imagine a place of worship without music. Singing is the highest form of praise that can come from our lips.

Adult Parish Choir

Open to all ages from high school to adult and new members welcome at any time!

Parish Choir sings weekly at the 10:30AM Mass on Sunday and various Holy Days during the year. For more information, email Choir Director Mike Lantowski or come up to the choir loft after any Mass.

Flexible scheduling accommodates today’s hectic pace and affords the opportunity for seasonal participation.

The Parish Choir affords the opportunity to be challenged and rewarded by studying the vast body of sacred music that is used to enhance our worship experience. As the bread and wine are transformed in the holy sacrifice of the mass, so are our prayers which are offered up in song.

Boys and Girls Choir

Open to all children in first grade through high school and newcomers always welcome!

  • Cherubs (grades 1, 2 and 3)
  • Schola (grades 4 and up)

Boys and Girls Choir sings weekly at the 9AM Mass on Sunday and various Holy Days during the year. For more information, email Choir Director Mike Lantowski [link to email: Mikestro@ymail.com] or come up to the choir loft after any Mass.

Not only do the choristers participate in song, but they also make new friends, learn disciplines of music making and develop a closer foundation in ministry. We ask you to seriously consider our music program as part of your spiritual life here at Saint Pius X Church.

High school singers are encouraged to audition for the Teen Cantor ministry.

Ushers

We need you—men and women welcome!

Ushers embody the principles of hospitality at St. Pius X Church. As an usher, you will cheerfully greet parishioners as they enter the church, help them to find seats as needed (particularly the elderly and those with special needs), take up collections, and after Mass ends wish everyone a good day and distribute bulletins. Consider joining us as an usher at Masses.

We assign you to a weekly schedule according to your Mass preference and there is increased need during special feast days and holidays. Training is available. Call Art Hedge at 203-259-3565 for more information about joining our loyal and friendly team of ushers.
