Prayer Shawl Ministry
All are welcome to become a part of this very special ministry. Since September 2007, we are a small dedicated group of devoted knitters and chocheters who, with compassionate care, create prayers shawls for those in need. Our mission is to comfort those in special need of being “wrapped” in prayer. Yarn for our shawls is provided during our meetings; however, donations of yarn and/or monetary donations are always gratefully accepted at the Church Office. Just bring your needles and a willingness to give of your time for those who will use these shawls. Shawls have been given to St. Pius X parishioners, St. Vincent’s Medical Center, Bridgeport Hospital, Daughters of Charity in Bridgeport, and Malta House in East Norwalk. In addition to making prayer shawls, we make scarves for the local poor and, also donate our “ends of skein” to Kenya Educational Service Trips (KEST). That organization carries the yarn to the Nyumbani Village in East Africa, where women use the yarn in weaving baskets that they then sell on behalf of AIDS orphans. We meet on the Second Saturday of the month, September – June from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the portable classroom in the Religious Education Center.
For 2016—2017, our Meeting Dates are: 9/10, 10/08, 11/12, 12/10, 1/14, 2/11, 3/11, 4/08, 5/13, and 6/10
